Saw

~ SAW (my thoughts and effect description) ~

This has to be one my favorite Geek magic effects out there! Geek magic is basically the type of magic that deals with the magician getting hurt in a certain way. Let me describe the effect to you from start:
Magician takes out a string (yea thats right a string!), of about 2-3 feet in length
He/She then begins to wrap the ends of the string around his fingers...
They start moving their hands left and right like in a sawing motion and move the string toward the neck...
After lifting the neck you can see the string is definitely about 1/4 inch deep inside the neck...
The magician screeches in pain as he starts to saw the string out of the neck...
You see the string pull against the skin and finally right out of the neck...
There are no scratches on the neck and the magician is still alive!
So there you have it, a description of the effect from start to finish. Of course in writing, this all seems like a bunch of bologna, So I have put a link to my video of the effect HERE. I found this effect after searching for some hard hitting magic (as usual!) and I was blown away from the preview video. The thought of having a string go about 1/4 of a inch deep into your neck with very minimal setup and being extremely angle friendly was a dream come true for me. After viewing the video, I'm sure my readers will find that the name SAW was very fitting for this effect. I knew this was going to be a great effect and after purchasing it I realized I had obtained a gem in magic for a small price.

~ SAW (Teaching from DVD and Practicing) ~

The DVD obviously had lots of work put into it, and it shows. When the menu starts, you hear a sort of eerie violin type song playing in the back ground with a menu of video viewing and video explanations. There are about four versions of this trick as based around the same principle. There is Saw, Stuture, Trachea, and Choke. Saw and Choke are my favorite as they are similar but Choke involves swallowing a life saver and performing Saw, only to end up with the life saver attached to the string after pulling it out of the neck. The DVD is very clear and Sean Fields goes over everything in-depth and he is also very conscious of the dangers that might arise while performing. After watching the explanations, you will have most of your questions answered. Practicing this effect is fun because you practice in front of a mirror and you still wont believe your eyes when you see how visual this effect is. It will not take much practice, but their are some subtleties that you might want to work on for heightening the reactions you're going to get. The difficulty on this effect on a scale from 1-10 (10 being the hardest) would be about a 2 for me. I guess its because I'm a seasoned magician, but to others it might be harder, but definitely not something that is tremendously mind boggling to figure out.

~ SAW (performing and final thoughts) ~

Performing this effect will be extremely fun for you because you can focus most of your time on presentation instead of the effect itself. You will basically be care free for this effect as nothing is likely to be exposed. By focusing on the spectators and the pain itself, you will make it seem as though you are in severe pain. Some like to perform this by being in pain, others like to perform this by staying quiet but really its your choice and basically something that matches your characteristics. I definitely think that magicians into street magic should try this out at least once and give it a shot. It is definitely not an effect for those with weak stomachs so make sure your not puking all over the place when you've seen me perform it. This is a work of art and I really appreciate Mr. Fields for sharing this product with us and letting us use it in our routines, etc. Like all art this should be admired by all magicians and definitely labeled as one of the top 5 effects in Geek Magic. Thanks for reading, Take Care. Peace.

Ring Thing

Well I haven't posted in a while, life's been going slow for me. Literally, I mean the seconds feel like hours its very annoying (okay, so I'm being a little sarcastic). Well lately I haven't been doing much, just having some rough times with my gf, feeling down so I've been practicing my magic. I started looking at my video of Ring Thing created by Garrett Thomas. This dude has some great, great ideas for ring effects. I will basically be doing the two that are my favorites. The first one, I take the ring off my finger and catch it on the same finger as I toss it into the air. The second one I take the ring off my finger and instead of catching it I throw it upwards toward the finger, instantly causing it to go back to place. I know, it sounds a little weird but here check this out.
Hope you guys and girls enjoyed it. Take Care. Peace.

Ego Change

- Ego Change (my thoughts) -
What a perfect name for such as great color change. The ego change takes guts to perform in front of spectators, and it takes time to learn the move, and it takes even longer to master the move. I would say that I am still trying to master the move, but it looks great for now. You can view me performing the Ego Change here. When I first saw this color change, I was just stunned by the visual appeal it had. I mean, to have one card change to another card all under the spectators nose while having minimum cover (and might I add, ending up completely clean). That is a miracle to us magicians, a miracle that any seasoned and professional magician would definitely appreciate. All thanks go to DANIEL GARCIA for creating such a stunning, visual change. On to the rest of the review.

- Ego Change (difficulty and patience) -
Okay, let me start this section off by saying that you will need to practice. Before I purchased this effect, I had seen the video and doubted that the mechanics of the move were extremely simple. Although, I am not saying this move is extremely hard either, just takes time and effort to get the move undetectable. You will struggle at first, but soon after it will all fall in place. What I recommend doing is watching videos of others performing the effect, and getting a copy of THE DANIEL GARCIA PROJECT VOL. 1(DVD). Patience is definitely required for a move like this, but it will all be worth it when you have it down.

- Ego Change (performance and final thoughts) -
I have performed this a few times for spectators and they just loved the change. It catches them by surprise if you do it fast. Thats the great thing about this change, you can adjust the move to your style of magic at YOUR speed. Spectators don't know what to expect when you do a change, nor do they even come close to figuring out the move (depending on how well you perform it). I think that every card magician that has some experience with color changes and such should get this move. It can be applied to the Ambitious Card Routine, and any other effects you can think of. Thats it for now. Take Care Guys. Thanks for all your support. Thank you. Take Care. Peace.

SpongeBalls

SpongeBall Magic (Video and Review)

- Sponge balls (and my feelings about them) -
Spongeballs to me, are the most common magic props known to magicians and spectators alike. They are a load of fun to perform, and even more fun to experience the sponge magic. I'd like to review some of the spongeballs I bought from Rogue magic shop but, before I do that check out the video! Sponge Ball Magic! Okay, now for the review!

- Sponge balls (the actual product) -
These spongeballs are very high quality, but that is not always the case. Sometimes you may end up buying the cheap kind of sponge balls that tear easily. I reccomend going to Ellusionist.com for getting some great spongeballs, or if you don't like having to wait for shipping go to Rogue Magic shop. (Rogue Magic Shop) Either one of those sources will also recommend to you a sponge ball booklet to learn the sleights that make the sponge balls so magical. Some worry about the maintenence of these little things, but not to worry! These things are soo soft and small that they will fit into most any pocket you have! Just take them out again when you're set to go. If they start losing their round ball shape, then all you have to do is blow on them and that heat usually brings back their shape.

- Sponge Balls (performing with and difficulty) -
First lets start with difficulty level. For a beginning magician, the sponge balls are highly recommended. Why because they are great tool that helps you get your audiences' attention and build your experience. Just because they are great for a beginning magician does not mean experienced magicians can't use them. I use them and I have been into the magic arts for about 5 years now, its a great effect that never gets old. Most of the sleights are simple enough to master, but presentation is key (which is why you should practice on spectators to get used to it). Performing with them as I said before, is very fun for you. You get to have fun with the spectators and have make the spongeballs multiply, disappear, transform, etc.

Fraud

Ahh yes Fraud created by Daniel Garcia. What a great great effect it is. For those that haven't heard of it heres a break down: You ask a spectator for a dollar bill and tell them to sign the back of the bill. You proceed to talk about how the ink on the bill is permanent and can't be moved...unless you know the magic way. You point to the insignia on the bill and move it right across the bill to the other side.
Talk about hard hitting! I've performed this effect for about two people so far and it has gotten me some great reactions. People have nothing to say at the end, and thus conclude that I'm some sort of freak. This is effect is not for all people though. Meaning that if your not a patient person, this effect will give you nightmares. Fortunately for me, I'm patient(haha sometimes) and I thought the end result far far over weighs the time and effort I had to put into it. I recommend this to any serious magicians out there, but be careful who you perform it to! Click Here to Check out FRAUD
Until next time, take care. Peace.
